Dan M. Stingl, M.D is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who received his Bachelor's Degree from Tufts University in Mechanical Engineering where he graduated with honors in three years. During this time he did lab research at M.I.T. developing tissue adhesives. He subsequently attended the University of Virginia for one year where he completed a Master's Degree in Biomedical Engineering with high honors specializing in Radiological Physics. Dr. Stingl graduated near the top of his class from the Medical College of Virginia earning his M.D. while doing research in the Ophthalmology Department evaluating corneal adhesives and developing intraocular endoscopic instrumentation. During this time he did clinical work at the Richmond Eye and Ear Hospital and the Old Dominion Eye Bank. At the Cleveland Clinic he concentrated in plastic surgery during his internship. He received numerous awards during his residency in Ophthalmology at the Cleveland Clinic and presented research at several national conferences. Dr. Stingl became very busy in private practice in North Dakota while continuing to give invitational lectures. He then founded a practice in Eastern Oregon, serving as a successful model for ethical cooperation between optometrists and ophthalmologists. During this time he developed innovative techniques in corneal transplantation and cosmetic surgery. In Florida, Dr. Stingl has practiced in Bonita Springs where he developed a surgical and laser technique for pterygia treatment with a very low recurrence rate. He has volunteered with the Lions to treat indigent patients and served on overseas missions. He has recently returned from private practice in Illinois to join our team. Dr. Stingl is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology.
Warren J. Scherer, M.D., Ph.D.
Warren J. Scherer, M.D., Ph.D. is a board certified ophthalmologist specializing in cataract surgery and LASIK. Dr. Scherer received his Bachelor of Science degree in biochemistry, summa cum laude, from the State University of NY at Buffalo, where he also completed a combined M.D. and Ph.D. He then completed his residency in ophthalmology at W. K. Kellogg Eye Center at the University of Michigan. Dr. Scherer has been honored with grants and awards from the National Eye Institute and the March of Dimes, and has published numerous articles in national scientific and medical journals. Dr. Scherer’s research has been presented at national meetings of leading research organizations. Dr Scherer is a member of several ophthalmic medical and research organizations, and has volunteered for numerous charitable endeavors to help the less fortunate. Dr. Scherer was recognized for this by being included in a nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize to the medical personnel of “Mission of Mercy” by the government of El Salvador in 2001.
Jon R. Berlie, M.D.
Dr. Berlie is a Board Certified Ophthalmologist who specializes in plastic surgery of the eyes and cataract surgery. Dr. Berlie completed his undergraduate training at the University of Victoria in British Columbia, Canada and at the California State University of San Bernardino where he received the California State University of San Bernardino Research Scholarship Award. He then went on to Creighton University School of Medicine in Omaha, Nebraska where he graduated Cum Laude, was elected as Class President, and received the Senior of the Year Award. He then completed his internship in internal medicine also at Creighton University Medical Center. Dr. Berlie then went on to the University of Nebraska Medical Center where he completed his Ophthalmology Residency and received the awards of Chief Resident and Resident of the Year Award. Dr. Berlie then went on to Saint Anthony Hospital in Oklahoma City to complete his fellowship training in Oculoplastic and Aesthetic Laser Surgery under Sterling Baker, M.D., a pioneer in laser eyelid surgery.
Charles J. Montgomery, M.D.
Born and raised in Circleville, Ohio, Dr. Montgomery completed his undergraduate study at Duke University and earned his medical degree from Ohio State University. His surgery internship and residency in ophthalmology were completed at Medical College of Virginia in Richmond. He served two years with the United Stated Navy in Pensacola, Florida prior to moving to Naples. He has been practicing ophthalmology here since 1970.
Dr. Montgomery is certified by the National Board of Medical Examiners and the American Board of Ophthalmology, and is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology. He is a member and past president of the Collier County Medical Society, a member of Alpha Omega Alpha (a national scholastic and leadership honorary medical society), the Florida Medical Association, and the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery. He is on the staff of Naples Community Hospital and is the past chairman of the infection control committee. Dr. Montgomery is respected by the medical community in Florida for successfully pioneering the effort to change Florida legislation to allow Medicare recipients to use high-quality, specialized surgical centers instead of hospitals for many surgical procedures including eye surgery.
Marianne S. Geraci, M.D.
Dr. Geraci is a board-certified ophthalmologist who specializes in medical ophthalmology. Dr. Geraci completed medical school at Case Western Reserve University. She then went on to intern at Mt. Sinai Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Geraci finished her ophthalmology residency at Case Western Reserve University and went on to teach ophthalmology at Case Western Reserve as a Senior Clinical Instructor while engaged in private practice in Ohio for 14 years.
